Sikla USA, Inc. operates from our Suwanee (GA) office and is a subsidiary of the German- Austrian Sikla Group, a manufacturer of modular steel and pipe support solutions for the industrial, manufacturing mission critical and commercial construction markets.  Our team services the North American markets (USA and Canada) in providing design and engineering support to owners, GCs and trade contractors, along with a logistical service to our partners, distributors and direct customers.

Job Description

This role is open to US based candidates with an understanding of the US construction industry and with a background in engineering/ design work (preferred). As a Design Engineer at Sikla USA, you will be engaged with all levels of engineering activity within the team. Collaborating with sales personnel to aid concepting and pricing of designs, working closely with customers and other engineering professionals within the construction industry to develop, coordinate and supply solutions, and contributing to the development of the future use of the Sikla product ranges into both existing and emerging markets.

 

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Design of small to medium size structures using relevant design standards, via 3D structural design software. Ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Review customer requirements to ensure designs are fit for purpose and delivered on time.
  • Technical presentation of structural calculation reports to clients, and intermediary design verification partners.
  • Development of detailed 3D models, using industry standard software packages including AutoCAD 3D and Revit.
  • Participation in BIM coordination meetings with clients and colleagues.
  • Production of comprehensive construction drawings to internal and client specifications.
  • Production of material lists, cutting schedules and close coordination with our warehousing team to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of required materials.
  • Fielding of internal and external technical enquiries regarding products or services using existing technical documentation, or through problem solving and development of the department’s technical knowledge.
  • Verifying future project application feasibilities via concept level design and cost estimation.
  • Manage concurrent projects and their deliverables.
  • Development and possible automation of internal engineering process, such that speed and accuracy is improved for future projects and employees.

Your Profile

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, preferably in structural, civil or mechanical.  Other engineering qualifications will be considered.
  • Experience in working within the BIM (Building Information Modelling) concept and methodology.
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling CAD software, preferably within the Autodesk suite.  AutoCAD 3D and Revit are used on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of basic structural engineering concepts and experience with 3D structural analysis software is preferred.
  • Good IT and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with the comprehension of engineering drawings, calculations and datasheets.
  • Knowledge of US building codes (ASCE is preferred).
  • Willingness to travel and overnight stays (project related) in the US/ Canada (likely not for the first year).
  • Understanding of the US construction industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
